The Cozy Layers Vest is a beginner-friendly quilted vest sewing pattern (instant PDF download) in 8 sizes, XXS–3XL (US 00–24, EU 28–56, UK/AU 2–28). Sew it from pre-quilted fabric, quilt your own, or upcycle an old quilt. Then choose a cropped or full length and close it with buttons, snaps, or nothing at all.

Pattern details

  • Skill level: Beginner, with only 3 pattern pieces (2 fronts and 1 back on the fold)
  • Lengths: cropped or full length, both included
  • Closures: 4 buttons, 4 snap sets, or an open front
  • Edges: finished with twill tape binding, so there's no facing
  • Seam allowance: 1 cm (3/8") included
  • Fabric: pre-quilted fabric plus lining, or outer fabric, batting and lining if you quilt your own (diamond or onion quilting both work)

  • M: bust 92–97 cm / 36.5–38", waist 72–76 cm / 28.5–30"

  • XL: bust 109–114 cm / 43–45", waist 89–94 cm / 35–37"
  • XXL: bust 119–124 cm / 47–49", waist 99–104 cm / 39–41"
  • 3XL: bust 130–135 cm / 51–53", waist 109–114 cm / 43–45"

You will need

A sewing machine (with a buttonhole setting if you're using buttons), all-purpose thread, a 90/14 quilting needle, twill tape at least 2 cm (3/4") wide, tailor's chalk, pins or clips, and fabric scissors. Add a walking foot if you're quilting your own fabric. Full fabric yardage for every size and fabric width is in the instructions and the product photos.
